Historic Cemeteries in the Eastern Sierra

The Big Pine Cemetery District is proudly supported by dedicated members of the Big Pine community. Together, we work to preserve and care for our cemeteries as dignified, picturesque, and historically significant places—honoring those who came before us while ensuring this important part of Big Pine’s heritage is cherished for generations to come.

Crocker Cemetery

Crocker Cemetery is Big Pine’s historic cemetery, with burials dating to the community’s earliest years. The oldest legible headstone dates to 1874, and the cemetery was formally established in 1892 when the land was conveyed to its first trustees for a symbolic five-dollar gold piece.

With its mature landscape, historic monuments, and generations of Big Pine residents at rest here, Crocker offers a peaceful and deeply rooted setting for those who value tradition, history, and a lasting connection to the community.

Woodman Cemetery

Woodman Cemetery was established in 1917, when the Woodmen of the World fraternal organization purchased 15 acres of the McDonald & Naylor tract south of Big Pine for use as a public cemetery.

Set against the dramatic landscape of the Owens Valley, Woodman offers a peaceful, open setting with sweeping, unobstructed views of the Sierra Nevada and Crater Mountain. Its spacious surroundings and striking mountain backdrop make it a beautiful choice for those seeking a serene final resting place closely connected to the natural landscape of Big Pine.
